You may think I am asking you if stripes are the new neutral, but in fact that was a rhetorical question, because I already know they are. As long as you are interested in fashion, there will always be magazines, celebrities, bloggers, and brands trying to convince you of the latest trends you have to have for the season. I tend not to follow trends because my closet would be left each season with an uncoordinated mess of pieces that are not interchangeable. I thought about my three non negotiable neutrals that I stick to season after season to make my life and closet a little easier.
The first is a black and white stripe. Did you know stripes have been around since 1858 and worn as a uniform by the French navy seaman? Yeah me either until I googled it. The original design had 21 stripes, and each stripe functioned as a nod to each of Napolean’s militant victories. While approximating the history lesson I just gave you, why not ponder whether stripes will be considered your new neutral. Give me a black and white stripe in any size, shape or form and I will buy it and so should you.
The second in denim. As much as I hate wearing denim, I am American and Americans wear denim to anything they possibly can. I love wrapping a denim chambray shirt around my waist. One of the more obvious reasons is that it hides a particular body part I would like to take the attention off of. Second when I am cold I have an automatic solution–untie from waist and put shirt on like the lightweight jacket it serves to be.
So–let’s put my neutral staples together and voila I present to you this ah-mazing black and white MINKPINK Striped Body-Con Dress with my denim chambray wrapped around my waist. This dress is in fact on sale so I suggest buying it, because it can be worn for a multitude of events. Have a date? Great, you can wear this dress without the chambray. The cut-outs add a hint of sex appeal. I wouldn’t have a date so I would probably wear this to Whole Foods or Starbucks because I read somewhere it’s the best place to meet someone. Wear this dress to work with a blazer (to hide the cut-outs) or running errands by itself. I swear this dress will become your go to no matter what the season.
