The latent symbolism of minimalist dressing is also at odds with itself. There’s something both empowering and almost appropriate about their design.  Most minimalist pieces come in the form of a heavy investment with the likelihood said piece will stand the test of time and stay with you forever and ever.  The best things to invest in are black and white pieces with a feminine edge.  This white eyelet lace dress (which happens to be on sale) is the perfect summer work staple. I am at this curious crossroad right now where I don’t want to be buying new things, but instead reworking staple investment pieces that already exist in my closet.

While the photographed white Banana Republic dress can barely be rendered “old”–as I bought it a month ago, I have in fact worn it too many times and often styled it the exact same way. I had to stop myself before wearing it once again and teach myself how to master dressing with investment pieces. This dress reads very feminine by nature of color, lace and shape. Instead of pairing it with the same boring flats and handbag I decided to add a bit of androgynous edge. Insert studded heel sandals with numerous straps and the ultimate Rebecca Minkoff quilted black on black love bag. The soft fabric and girly lace paired with the rocker inspired bag and studded shoes make this the perfect marriage of hard and soft. This investment dress will take you through every season, think black tights combat boots and a black leather jacket in the dead of winter.
